Welcome to Visualising Economics
Hello I am Vasilis (Vasileios Antonopoulos) I moved from Greece to the UK 10 years ago, during the Greek financial crisis, to study Economics of Development at the University of Glasgow.
Since then I have worked with NGOs, the Office for National Statistics, Cabinet Office and the University of Essex, with my research focusing on economics of Inequality, poverty and economic well-being.
I have written a number of publications for conferences, the British government , statistical releases but also have been advising and briefing Ministers and Special Advisers.
The highlight of my career is the award that I received from the National Statistician of the United Kingdom for my research on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on ethnic minorities, a well-developed series of four publications trying to discover the socioeconomic reasons behind the higher likelihood of mortality for people from ethnic minorities.
I am passionate about explaining economics and writing stories on how households and individuals are affected from economic events such as rising inflation.
This is what this blog will cover, in plain English and accessible visualisations I will produce short pieces of analysis explaining how individuals and households are affected from economic events.
We will also look at the economic performance of the UK from a different perspective, instead of looking at how many products and services the country is producing, we will focus on a multidimensional index looking at household income, unemployment, wealth, income inequality and inflation.
